Tooling Vendor Management

A client had issued tooling purchase orders but was getting little communication from the vendor, and then lost the engineer managing the relationship.

Spot On Engineering stepped in to provide continuity, established strong communication with the vendor, and set firm deadlines — cutting more than two months out of the program timeline through effective project management alone.

Large-Scale Consumer Goods Programs

Spot On Engineering performed the engineering and project management of multimillion-dollar projects in the consumer goods industry. Annual volumes were up to five hundred million units.

This encompassed initial design through prototyping, chemical testing, metrology, manufacturing pilot runs, and final manufacturing qualifications.

Additionally, strong communication and project management allowed better construction of both the injection molds and the automation equipment. For instance, changeover time on the automation was reduced from 3.5 hours to about 15 minutes.

Products were successfully launched on schedule.

Filling a Product Development Gap

A client had a gap in product launches after engineers left the company. Spot On Engineering was brought in to design enclosures, manage the project, and solve problems as they arose — helping the client develop two products within the first year of engagement.

Production Crisis Recovery — Dental Product

About six months after developing a product for the dental industry, the company's owner contacted Spot On Engineering in distress over production issues and gave full authority to resolve them. Because the same engineer had done both the design and the original project management, it was immediately clear the mold had not been built to spec — the deep cores were to be copper with a nickel-Teflon coating, and that non-conformance was identified and the cores quickly rebuilt.

Spot On Engineering then worked with the supply chain team on a recovery plan to clear shortages for a product already on the market. The tooling was corrected and the supply chain stabilized in three months.
